Briny Breezes Seawall Repair and Stabilization Project

Project Overview

SLabFix successfully restored a deteriorating 4,000-foot seawall in Briny Breezes, Florida, using advanced polyurethane injection technology. The project addressed extensive soil erosion, water infiltration, and structural deterioration that threatened the integrity of the shoreline and nearby waterfront properties.

Briny Breezes Seawall Repair and Stabilization Project

The Challenge

Seawalls play a critical role in protecting coastal properties from erosion and water damage. Over time, the seawall in Briny Breezes began showing signs of significant deterioration, with more than 100 areas affected by soil loss and erosion.

Previous repair efforts included sealing horizontal cracks and vertical joints with hydraulic cement. While these repairs provided temporary improvements, they failed to address the underlying causes of water intrusion and soil washout occurring behind the structure.

As erosion continued, the stability of the seawall and the surrounding waterfront properties became increasingly vulnerable.

The Solution

After conducting a comprehensive assessment of the seawall, the SLabFix team developed a rehabilitation strategy focused on sealing water pathways and stabilizing the surrounding soils.

Using NCFI-120 polyurethane injection technology, technicians injected material throughout the length of the seawall. The expanding polyurethane naturally followed existing voids, cracks, and erosion channels behind the structure.

Once activated by moisture, the material expanded and hardened, creating an effective seal against water infiltration while simultaneously strengthening and densifying the surrounding soils.

As part of the rehabilitation process, 2.5-inch jet filters were also installed to enhance long-term performance and drainage management.

Over approximately one month, nearly 3,000 gallons of polyurethane material were injected along the entire 4,000-foot seawall.

Results

The polyurethane injection process successfully eliminated active water infiltration pathways that had been contributing to ongoing soil erosion behind the seawall.

Key Outcomes

  • Sealed cracks, seams, and erosion channels throughout the seawall.
  • Stopped water migration behind the structure.
  • Stabilized and densified surrounding soils.
  • Prevented continued soil loss and shoreline deterioration.
  • Extended the service life of the existing seawall.
  • Avoided costly excavation and structural replacement.
  • Protected adjacent waterfront properties from future damage.

By restoring the integrity of the seawall through a non-invasive repair method, SLabFix delivered a durable and cost-effective solution that preserved the shoreline while minimizing disruption to the surrounding area.

Why Polyurethane Injection?

Polyurethane injection provides a fast, effective, and minimally invasive alternative to traditional seawall replacement. The material expands to fill voids, seal leaks, and stabilize soils, making it an ideal solution for seawall rehabilitation projects where erosion and water intrusion are present.

SLabFix specializes in polyurethane injection solutions for seawalls, concrete lifting, soil stabilization, and structural rehabilitation throughout Florida and beyond.

Signs Your Seawall May Need Repair

Seawall deterioration often begins gradually and can worsen over time if left unaddressed. Property owners should watch for the following warning signs:

Soil Loss Behind the Seawall

Voids and soil washout behind the seawall indicate water is moving through cracks, joints, or failed seams.

Sinkholes Near the Shoreline

Depressions or sinkholes forming near the seawall may signal significant soil erosion beneath the surface.

Cracks in Seawall Panels

Visible cracks, separated joints, and deteriorating seams can allow water infiltration and accelerate structural damage.

Water Seepage and Washouts

Active water seepage through the seawall is often a sign that soils are being carried away, reducing support behind the structure.

Benefits of Polyurethane Seawall Repair

Polyurethane injection has become one of the most effective solutions for seawall rehabilitation because it addresses both water intrusion and soil instability.

Minimal Excavation

Repairs can typically be completed without extensive digging, preserving landscaping and minimizing disruption to the property.

Fast Installation

Most polyurethane injection projects can be completed significantly faster than traditional seawall reconstruction methods.

Long-Lasting Stabilization

The expanding polyurethane fills voids, seals water pathways, and strengthens surrounding soils for long-term performance.

Cost-Effective Alternative to Replacement

Polyurethane injection can extend the life of an existing seawall while avoiding the substantial costs associated with complete replacement.
